Mind - For Better Mental Health

More About Us

Folkestone and District Mind was registered as a charity in May 1988. Our charity is affiliated to National Mind but is run independently and has its own constitution and board of Trustees. We aim to improve the quality of life of Shepway residents experiencing mental distress. Our organisation has strong values and everyone working for us is familiar with our vision and objectives. Our services are provided by 15 part time staff plus many volunteers. Testimony to the commitment of staff and quality of services is our attainment of National Mind's Quality Mark.

We have approximately 150 members who regularly use our community services but many more people contact us seeking advice and information. Our members come from varied backgrounds and we regularly consult with them in developing services which are responsive to their needs and aspirations.

Since April 2016 we have been partly funded by Porchlight to provide Person Centred Planning for our members. Folkestone Mind charity is currently meeting the costs incurred in the day to day running of the Mind Resource Centre which also serves as our administrative headquarters. A Big Lottery Reaching Further grant means we are able to provide out of centre activities such as pottery, tai chi, yoga, mindfulness and a self programme etc. Please refer to our Wellbeing Programme too for these and other activities available. We rely upon grants, donations, fundraising and volunteers to support our services.

We encourage and support participation and service planning by volunteers and members.
